Economic Empowerment; Future of work educational and training programs
Summary
Through this grant we support the SAWA (‘together’) project, created by Anera, which provides education to 750 out of school girls in North Lebanon and seeks to enhance their access to education and inspire them to pursue further education or careers.
What
In Lebanon, early marriage is most acutely felt among displaced populations, and it is estimated that 41% of Syrian refugee women aged 20-24 have been married before the age of 18. The SAWA project, launched in 2021 as a pilot, uses conditional cash transfers to aid in completing young girls’ education. SAWA also provides retention classes, life skills workshops, and runs public awareness campaigns on the health risks of early marriage. During the pilot program, 1,300 girls received educational support through conditional cash transfer. SAWA saw promising results: decreased dropout rates and decreased early marriage rates among the participants. By implementing a multifaceted approach that includes conditional cash transfers, educational support, and community-based interventions, SAWA provides a robust framework for supporting girls’ education and well-being.
Throughout the program, comprehensive impact measurement and evaluation metrics are used to assess the program’s effectiveness. This holistic approach is aimed at long-term impact on girls’ lives.

Summary
This research grant supports the work of Dr. Farah Shamout, Principal Investigator at the Clinical AI Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi. The grant seeks to advance AI-driven healthcare research in the UAE, strengthen local expertise, and elevate the role of women led research in the region.
Who
The Clinical AI Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi is a multidisciplinary research lab that advances health and well-being using data, engineering, and computing.
What
This grant will support pioneering research at the Clinical AI Lab, building reliable and robust AI decision-support systems in the following healthcare areas: brain health, women’s health, oncology, and in-hospital clinical decision support. The research projects two interconnected pillars:
- Developing novel and original machine learning models
- Identifying high-impact clinically meaningful problems and understanding characteristics of real-world data
This grant further supports mentorship and training of undergraduate scholars and early-career scientists, fostering local expertise in clinical AI, and strengthening the next generation of AI researchers in the UAE.

Summary
The Muna Al Gurg Scholarship will award one MBA and two EMBA Dubai scholarships each year over four years to high achieving women scholars attending LBS from the MENA region.
Who
London Business School offers post-graduate business education programs, including MBAs, Masters, PhD degrees, and short executive courses. It is consistently ranked among the top 10 MBA programs in the world. LBS has a secondary campus in Dubai that provides an EMBA program to students in the region. LBS is committed to enabling opportunities to women in the MENA.
What
Since 2015, we have partnered with London Business School to offer the Muna Al Gurg Scholarship to women in the Middle East seeking higher education. The scholarship aims to increase the number of women in senior leadership positions within companies in the region besides advocating a greater role for women in business. The Muna Al Gurg Scholars work in the areas of business, technology, climate, and more. This partnership enables an annual MBA scholarship in London and two EMBA scholarships in Dubai over the next four years to strong women in business candidates.
